Pressure Ulcers

Damage to the skin that results from a combination of the compression of tissue and the insufficient passage of fluid through the circulatory or lymphatic system. Pressure ulcers, otherwise known as bedsores, usually occur when a patient is unable to move around on their own and are either bedridden or in a wheelchair for a long period of time. If a pressure ulcer goes untreated it can develop into an erosion of the subcutaneous tissues and can potentially extend down to the muscle or bone.
