Stoma Care

After having an ileostomy procedure to treat a digestive disease, patients may require a stoma or an opening in the stomach connected to a pouch that collects waste. Caring for a stoma is critical to successful healing following an ileostomy. Stoma care involves removing waste from the pouch multiple times a day, washing the skin around the stoma, and allowing time for it to properly dry, and being conscious of the ingredients in products that are being used on the skin near the stoma.
