Tracheostomy Care

The process of keeping a tracheostomy, or trach, tube clean in order to avoid infection following a tracheostomy procedure. Patients with a trach tube will likely be instructed to remove the inner cannula daily and clean it with a brush and allow it to dry before reinserting. Additionally, patients may be instructed to clean the area around the opening for the trach tube with hydrogen peroxide, allow it to dry, and change the trach tube ties.
